Scientific Blogging: Empowering Minds at the University of Padua

In an era of rapid technological advancement and information sharing, bridging the gap between academia and the public has become more important than ever. In October 2022 and April 2023, The University of Padua took a step in this direction by organising the “Scientific Blog Writing” initiative in collaboration with our team of experts.

With two captivating seminars that delved into the intricacies of technical writing for blogs and explored the various fields of technical blogging, the University ignited a spark of innovation and communication among its participants.

The speakers

ALESSANDRO BENEDETTI
Director @ Sease

ANNA RUGGERO
R&D Software Engineer @ Sease

LISA BIELLA
Digital Marketing Manager @ Sease

The first seminar

The first seminar was an immersive journey into the technical nuances of crafting an engaging blog post. Starting with the historical evolution of this writing style, we dissected the indispensable elements that underpin effective web-based communication.

Students were introduced to the do’s and don’ts of each vital component of a blog post, such as titles, content, images and more. We then looked at the different types of blogs and their respective purposes, laying the groundwork for an in-depth exploration of scientific blogging. We also delved into the practical, taking students through the entire process of creating a blog post within the user-friendly WordPress dashboard. From drafting to titling, every facet was meticulously covered, ensuring that students left with a comprehensive understanding of the blogging process.

This session not only equipped them with theoretical knowledge but also gave them the practical skills to successfully create a blog.

The second seminar

In the second seminar, we went even deeper and conducted a thorough analysis of different types of scientific blog posts.

Our team of experts meticulously examined each category, identifying its defining elements and presenting them to the students through a series of illustrative examples. This method not only simplified the learning process but also provided a comprehensive understanding of the different formats of technical blog posts. In addition, each type was analyzed in detail, including its intended purpose, target audience, recommended language, desired length and ideal pipeline for execution.

This granular exploration equipped the students with a nuanced understanding, enabling them to approach each type of technical blog post with precision and purpose. As a result, they were empowered to cultivate their own preferences in line with their unique interests and strengths.

The hand-on experience

Active student involvement was at the heart of our Scientific Blogging initiative. After receiving extensive guidance and insights from our seminars, students were given the exciting challenge of creating their own blog posts on scientific topics. This hands-on experience allowed them to put the principles they had learned into practice and push the boundaries of their creativity and analytical skills. What made this engagement even more rewarding was that their blog posts weren’t just academic exercises; they counted towards their exam grades

The exceptional blog posts produced by our students didn’t just stop at the classroom door. The best and most insightful pieces were proudly published on our highly visited and deeply engaged blog. This achievement underscored the real-world impact of their work, as their writings reached a wide and interested audience, transcending the boundaries of the university.
